Dr Prakash Shah has written an opinion piece for The Indian Express on India’s caste system and its wrongful association with Sanatan Dharma.
In the article, he highlights that it is a common misconception that Hinduism or Sanatan Dharma has an oppressive caste system. He points to various examples of why this isn’t the case, including the fact that nobody has actually proved that caste discrimination is present among Indians living in the UK. Instead, Dr Shah, Reader in Culture and Law at Queen Mary University of London, argues that India inherited “a conception of its social structure which is not of its own making.” He continues, “it was made by a Christian culture, primarily the British, but echoed across Christian Europe.”
