The problem with Israel’s so called 'crisis of democracy'

Professor Neve Gordon has written an opinion piece for Aljazeera about the threat to Israel’s democracy.

According to Professor Gordon, most of the current international coverage of Israel focuses on how the new policies introduced by Netanyahu's government are threatening Israel's well-functioning and robust democracy. However, he points out that this democracy only applies to Jews and not Palestinians, who face a range of discriminatory laws and abuses under the current system. In the piece, he says: "Sure, there is democracy in Israel – but it is more similar to the one that existed among whites in apartheid South Africa than it is to the democracy that currently exists in the United Kingdom or France."
