Penny Green, Professor of Law and Globalisation at Queen Mary University of London, has co-authored an article for Al Jazeera, with Raz Segal, Associate Professor of Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Stockton University stating that there is plenty of evidence to prove Israel’s genocidal intent: “Perpetrators of genocide rarely express their intentions in direct and explicit ways… In the case of Israel’s genocidal assault on Gaza, however, as the Law for Palestine database shows, people with command authority have been making genocidal statements repeatedly over the past three months.”
Dr Thomas MacManus, Senior Lecturer in State Crime at Queen Mary, was interviewed by Al Jazeera about how South Africa has presented its case. He called their presentation “very impressive”. He said: “The lawyers are thinking about the court, and they speak to the court, but they’re also thinking about who’s watching.” He also goes on to highlight the way South Africa is linking the rhetoric from the Israeli government to the behaviour of IDF soldiers on the ground to show genocidal intent and conduct. Professor Green is Co-Director and Dr MacManus is Acting Director of the International State Crime Initiative.
