Professor Eric Heinze is among the speakers for Free Speech and Academic Freedom across the Disciplines, which takes place at Queen Mary University of London on 24 April 2024.

This half-day event will discuss and debate some key issues and current challenges around free speech and academic freedom from a multi-disciplinary viewpoint. This topic is particularly relevant, given that the main provisions of the Higher Education (Freedom of Speech) Act will come into force in August 2024.
Eric Heinze, Professor of Law and Humanities at the Queen Mary's School of Law, will speak in the first panel on Free Speech, Law, Democracy and Social Justice. He will discuss whether speech restrictions are helpful to minorities.
This event is organised by the Queen Mary branch of Academics for Academic Freedom, of which Dr Prakash Shah, Reader in Culture and Law at the School of Law, is a founding member of. The event has received funding from the Ian Mactaggart Programme which is administered by the Free Speech Union and this event is also supported by Living Freedom.
