Professor Alan Dignam giving a lecture on Artificial Intelligence to high school students in JamaicaThe School of Law visited Jamaica for a recruitment and engagement visit, 11-15 November 2019. The delegation consisted of Alan Dignam, Professor of Corporate Law, and Nerys Evans, School Manager for the Department of Law.

School visits

The School visited 5 schools to highlight both the benefits of University and specifically the Queen Mary undergraduate programmes in Law. During one visit Professor Alan Dignam taught an interesting ICT class on Artificial Intelligence. The staff at the school felt the format of Professor Dignam’s class was useful and could benefit students’ study and development.

We also held a parent and student event and the AISK international School to give parents and students the opportunity to find out more about QMUL generally.

University visits

The School visited University of Technology, Jamaica, as well as the University of West Indies, Mona Campus to promote law at Queen Mary. The students recognised the impact international study could have on employability and were interested in our LLM programmes.

Drop-in sessions

The School held a drop in session for prospective QMUL students. We had a range of students attending, including LLM and LLB offer holders.

Alumni lecture and drinks

The academic highlight of the week was the alumni lecture and drinks reception which we held at University of the West Indies, Law Faculty. Professor Alan Dignam spoke to an audience of around 50 on the subject of Artificial Intelligence. The audience consisted of QMUL School of Law alumni, UWI students, Government officials and the UWI networks. There was a lively Q&A session afterwards and a reception followed continuing the debate and to catch up with Alumni.
