Dr Nicola Georgiou

Profile

Nicola Georgiou is a Lecturer in Law of Evidence and Law and Pharmacology, and a tutor for Criminal Law. She completed her undergraduate LLB at the School of Law at Queen Mary University of London (2014), followed by a LLM in Criminology and Criminal Justice at LSE (2015) and a Mres in Security and Crime Science at UCL (2017). Her doctoral thesis with title: “Uncertainty in Forensic Science: Conceptualisation, Evaluation and Communication” explored the tools currently in use in the disciplines of Medicine, Environmental Science and Economics for the purposes of understanding, evaluating and disclosing uncertainty to lay-individuals, in order to develop holistic frameworks for dealing with uncertainty in forensic science. Prior to joining Queen Mary, Nicola taught modules on interdisciplinary knowledge and research methods at UCL and has been part of research projects conducting empirical studies on criminal justice issues, as well as the legal regulation of cannabis in the EU.

Research

Nicola is interested in issues arising at the intersection of law and science, including the communication of the uncertainty in forensic evidence in court, as well as matters concerning the legal regulation of drugs (both medicinal and recreational).
