Non-Fungible Token (NFT) Relationship with Intellectual Property Rights

Summary of Research

The research aims to reveal the relationship between intellectual property law and the Non-Fungible Token (NFT), an emerging new technology, and examine the place and legal nature of NFTs within the framework of intellectual property law. Another purpose of the study is to propose clear definitions of the authors and buyers of NFTs, as well as explain where NFTs should stand in the context of intellectual property and address any gaps in the research. Additionally, the contributions of the research to the literature will allow NFTs to be viewed as a method to accelerate the universalisation and increase the economic efficiency of art, as one of the highest areas of demand for NFTs in digital artworks and art collectives.

Biography

Zeynep Kubra Kavcar Penbegullu is a qualified Turkish lawyer registered at Istanbul Bar Association since 2017. She graduated from LLB (2016) and LLM in Private Law (2019) in Turkey. After she moved to London, she established her legal and business consultancy company in 2019. She has graduated from City, University of London International Commercial Law Master’s Degree in 2020 with Distinction. Currently, she is a PhD student at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London, and awarded with the Herchel Smith Scholarship.
