Supervisor Professor Uma suthersanen Biography Kelvin’s work experience includes representing Singapore at a range of international and regional Intellectual Property fora, including the World Trade Organization (WTO) TRIPS forum and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Standing Committee for Copyright and Related Rights. In his public service role, Kelvin also advised the Singapore government on IP policy across a range of intellectual property like copyright, trade marks, patents, geographical indications and plant varieties, and has drafted legislation for most of these IP rights. In addition, he also served as a negotiator for the IP chapter of several Free Trade Agreements that Singapore had negotiated. Prior to his stint in government service, he was in private practice working in the Intellectual Property and Media Law practice group of Messrs David Chong & Co. He holds a Masters of Laws (IP)(Merit) from Queen Mary University of London and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the National University of Singapore, and is an Advocate and Solicitor of Singapore. Summary of research Kelvin’s research focuses on copyright law and its relevance in an online digital environment. In addition, Kelvin has research interests in all aspects of international copyright, trade mark and patent law, as well as the law related to the Internet and electronic commerce. He is especially interested in the effect of technology on IP.Research
