Extensive experience in international public and private law, banking, capital markets and trade finance, digital assets, good governance, law and policy reform in four continents, including thirty years successfully leading and managing teams of lawyers and other professionals in a wide spectrum of legal, law reform and business development projects and activities.  

Undertaken Board and senior management level roles, strategic policy formulation and new business development; advised senior government and other officials to resolve complex problems and compliance issues; developed and implemented innovative financing instruments; and led and managed a wide range of international transactional work including acquisitions, fund formation, and public and private equity and debt deals in cross border environments.  

Experience gained in leading law firms (14 years), in three public international financial institutions (18 years) - including as General Counsel of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and in legal and banking positions at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank - and in several in-house legal and operational positions in the private sector, including as Head of International Finance of Banque Paribas Capital Markets.  As International Director of a large English law firm, successfully drove forward a global international strategy and initiated new business opportunities. Prior to this, led the worldwide legal and compliance functions of global fund manager, INVESCO UK, outside North America.

Currently: an independent consultant on international law, trade finance, digital assets, law and policy reform; an honorary Professor of International Finance and Trade Law at a major European post-graduate educational institution; a strategic advisor to an award winning fintech company; and Co-Founder and Director of the Centre for Applied Sustainable Transition Law (CASTL).
