"My advice to future and prospective students would be to forge meaningful relationships with the faculty and your fellow LLM students."
Year of graduation: 2021Name of programme: Comparative and International Dispute Resolution LLMCountry: United States
Since completing my law degree in the United States, I have had a strong interest in international arbitration and hoped to pursue a career in dispute resolution. This interest was the driving factor in deciding to pursue an LLM in dispute resolution after several years of practice in the United States to deepen my knowledge of international arbitration. In deciding where to pursue my LLM, Queen Mary was my top choice because of its reputation as leading research institution located in one of the world's most popular arbitral seats.
The faculty in the CIDR programme are comprised of practitioners and leading academics in the field, and this is something that makes Queen Mary unique. During the LLM, I was not only able to expand my knowledge of dispute resolution and international arbitration, but I also gained insights into how our theoretical discussions in class would arise in practice. Such insights were invaluable and helped to have a deeper understanding and better prepare me for my future as a dispute resolution practitioner.
My advice to future and prospective students would be to forge meaningful relationships with the faculty and your fellow LLM students. These relationships can form the basis of a strong network of practitioners and academics from all over the world who are key opinion leaders and up-and-coming in the field of international arbitration.
