Insurance is a peculiar area of study so you do not get many schools with the requisite expertise to handle advanced scholarships in the field. Queen Mary is one of the few universities in the world with an experienced insurance law faculty. Added to that, the location of CCLS in the heart of London, arguably the birthplace of modern insurance, made it an easy choice for me.
The faculty members were deeply knowledgeable in their course areas and they delivered expertly on facilitating learning. Queen Mary has a rich library of insurance law material, which greatly helped the experience.
I found the course content very relevant. You got good historical foundations on the development of insurance law and had good content for the present and future. The faculty’s insights into the London Market added value to the course experience.
I audited Shipping Law modules and that further enriched my knowledge especially on the subject of Marine Insurance Law.
I would say Queen Mary delivered for me and that is probably because I really immersed myself into the programme. I built good connections and made good friends as well. I would advise future students to take all the opportunities that Queen Mary has to offer.
I have had Insurance Law teaching opportunities, and the course has opened up other opportunities in insurance consulting as well.
It will easily be the seminars with members of faculty who had been Judges and decided on some of the most pivotal insurance cases. I particularly remember seminars with Sir Richard Aikens and Sir Bernard Anthony Rix, both of whom were former Lord Justices of Appeal.
