“My best advice to future students is to leverage the relationships CCLS has with international law firms and the legal sector in the UK. Attend as many of these events as possible. The networks formed during these events are critical in expanding career opportunities.”

I dreamed of attending Queen Mary University of London, Centre for Commercial Law Studies because of its leading academics in international economic law. The Centre’s central location in London was another factor that influenced my decision. From the generous funding of the Chevening-Queen Mary Partner Scholarship, I was able to make this dream a reality.
At CCLS the teaching quality is excellent. The classroom was challenging yet stimulating, and my relationship with lecturers was vital in expanding my network. In addition, CCLS partners with a number of international law firms to host lectures. I enjoyed attended the White & Case LLP- Queen Mary International Arbitration Lecture and the Clifford Chance Energy Law Lecture.
While enrolled in the International Economic Law LLM, I chose to combine modules from the Energy and Natural Resources Law LLM. The combination was dynamic.Energy considerations frequently arose in investment law disputes. The combination heightened my knowledge of the intersection of energy policy and investment law. The knowledge I gained from the combination has enhanced my career in investment law.
My favourite thing about CCLS was the diversity and inclusivity. I had friends from Africa, Asia, North America and a group of fellow Caribbean students. Such a diverse environment allowed excellent cross fertilisation of ideas. I built enduring international networks during my time at CCLS.
My best advice to future students is to leverage the relationships CCLS has with international law firms and the legal sector in the UK. Attend as many of these events as possible. The networks formed during these events are critical in expanding career opportunities.
