“CCLS was the perfect environment to learn”.
Year of graduation: 2022Name of programme: International Shipping Law LLM, 2022
When I started researching programs in Maritime Law in the United Kingdom, I was aware of a few universities but not of Queen Mary. I wanted to study in London and the campus in Lincoln’s Inn fields, Holborn, is in the heart of many different law firms and close to the Royal Courts and the Admiralty court, which we had the opportunity to visit.
CCLS was the perfect environment to learn and even to participate online, the blending of online and on-campus classes was helpful for reviewing since you were able to re-watch the class or prepare for the next one.
Ultimately what draw me to my program was that it involved not only Maritime Law but also Insurance, Contract law, and Reinsurance modules. These modules gave me a broader understanding of the Maritime and Transport area and were all taught by renowned professors who had experienced careers in academia. Being a student from a civil law jurisdiction, it was interesting to be able to compare between English and International law.
For any future students, I would advise them to take all their credits during the two first semesters so they could focus on their dissertation in the final semester. Study not only the content, but also
what is expected, the form of your essays, and lastly, don’t be afraid to make new friends or be involved in all sorts of activities or societies that Queen Mary Student Union has to offer.
