I met with a QMUL professor when I was still deciding whether to pursue my PhD there or at another institution. One of the key things she remarked on was the amazing human and professional qualities of the staff members, and the academic community at QMUL. She was absolutely right. My years as a PhD candidate here have been notoriously marked by the professionalism of my colleagues and my supervisors as well as the feeling of being a part of a great team.
The time I spent doing research with my supervisors have been the highlight of my academic career. Being able to discuss ideas and receive feedback from such talented academics has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Their support and guidance both professionally and personally have been a character-building and strengthening experience for an overseas student like me.
I have always felt that I was in a thriving environment and that I was encouraged to challenge myself constantly. I was encouraged to speak at a seminar three months after I started my PhD, which although being highly challenging, has given me the tools to clarify my ideas and enhance my research.
Moreover, the PhD programme has given me the opportunity to connect with other research communities all over the world. The greatest breakthroughs of my research happened while completing a summer school abroad.
I would definitely recommend pursuing a PhD at QMUL, especially for its people, who make the whole experience a unique opportunity for professional and personal growth.
