Year of graduation: 2022 Name of programme: Tax Law LLMCountry: UgandaCurrent Role: Head of Tax, H&G Advocates
My decision to study tax law at CCLS was influenced by at least three factors. Firstly, CCLS is home of leading experts in tax law. Secondly, the course outline had many options that were relevant to me. Thirdly, CCLS is situated in the Lincoln Inn.
The experience exceeded my expectations. The professors were kind and interested in making sure we learned a lot. Many times, our professors invited leading practitioners to complement the teaching which gave us a chance to learn the various perspectives.
Our professors invited exceptional speakers. I remember we had a class with Philip Baker KC and Sol Piccioto, among others.
I did not combine modules. Within the tax law specialism, there were too many options to choose from.
I am a Chelsea fan. It was great living in close proximity to the club. Moreover, I enjoyed jogging in the Elizabeth Park which was near the mile end.
Oh yes. I studied with colleagues from many countries and I am still in touch with many of my classmates. The diversity in our class contributed to the experience.
The LLM in tax law has definitely helped my career. I am currently a partner in one of the leading law firms in Uganda, H&G Advocates, where I head the tax practice. I would not be the Head of Tax in a law firm of this scale without the LLM in Tax law.
One of the decisions you will most likely never regret is choosing to study at CCLS.
There were many events and experiences during my time at CCLS. Arguably, the most important of them all was meeting with new people and making friends.
