"I would recommend CCLS to all students and professionals (from junior to experienced level) who are looking to acquiring knowledge or complement it on an international basis..."
Year of graduation: 2020Name of programme: Tax Law LLMCountry: Brazil
I am a qualified Brazilian lawyer with more than 17 years of legal practice, among which 12 years dealing with tax disputes, international and domestic tax advisory in law firms and major Brazilian companies operating in the energy sector.
My recent experience in the Energy Sector influenced the choice of my modules on the programme. One of the modules I chose was the Energy Law Principles, which helped me to become more familiar with international framework agreements, domestic regimes and systems not only to understand the Brazilian Regulatory approach vis-à-vis the international practice but also to facilitate discussions related tax policies involving this sector.
During my academic year at CCLS, I learnt how fiscal stabilisation plays a pivotal role to foster and attract long-term investment in the energy sector. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), it is estimated in more than US$ 48 trillion up to the year 2035. As a result, opportunities in this area will be diverse and more complex, mainly due to environmental concerns.
The discussion about how taxes changing may affect the granting instruments entered by an International Oil Company and a Hosting State was my favourite topic. For O&G Companies, it is crucial operating under minimum legal and tax stability, mainly due to the volume of investment needed during the lifespan of O&G reserves. Thus, applying the knowledge that I gained in both international tax and energy law will contribute towards a more technical approach in my tax analyses from now on.
I would recommend CCLS to all students and professionals (from junior to experienced level) who are looking to acquiring knowledge or complement it on an international basis. What is more, the programme is flexible to the extent that entitled students to combine some modules outside your specialisation.
