The Centre for European and International Legal Affairs (CEILA) Annual Lecture will be delivered by Professor Tulio Treves and is entitled "The EU and the Law of the Sea - An Assessment". The lecture will be chaired by Professor Malgosia Fitzmaruice (Queen Mary University of London).

Tullio Treves is Emeritus Professor of International Law at the University of Milan. Between 1996 and 2011 he was a Judge on the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) and President of the Seabed Disputes Chamber. He is currently an ad hoc judge in a case before ITLOS and, in his capacity as an international law consultant with Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle, is acting as arbitrator or counsel in disputes before International Courts and Tribunals. He has been a Legal Adviser to the Permanent Mission of Italy at the United Nations and was a member of the Italian delegation to the Security Council. He is the author of numerous books and articles in the field of public and private international law with special emphasis on the law of the sea and international dispute settlement. He is a member of the Institut de Droit International and the American, French and Italian Societies of International Law. He is currently a member of the Curatorium of the Hague Academy of International Law and gave the general course on public international law at the Hague Academy in 2015.
