Valsamis Mitsilegas, Professor of European Criminal Law and Global Security, Head of the Department of Law, and Academic Lead for Internationalisation at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), has published (together with Sergio Carrera) a Policy Paper on the implications of the recent preliminary reference by the Irish High Court concerning the scrutiny of the rule of law in Poland in the context of the execution of a European Arrest Warrant. The paper stresses the importance of a bottom-up scrutiny of mutual trust and compliance with the rule of law by national courts in the context of cross-border cooperation in criminal matters.
