This is the Annual Lecture for the Criminal Justice Centre at the School of Law, Queen Mary University of London. The lecture will be held by Professor Lars Bay Larsen, Judge of the Court of Justice of the EU.

Speaker Biography

Professor Lars Bay Larsen has been a Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union since 1996. He worked as an official at the Ministry of Justice (1983-85) before being appointed Lecturer (1984-91) and then Associate Professor (1991-96) in Family Law at the University of Copenhagen.

From 1985 to 1986 he was Head of Section at the Danish Bar Association (Advokatsamfund) and from 1986 to 1995 he was Head of Section and then Head of Division at the Ministry of Justice. He was called to the Bar in 1991, was Head of the Police Department (1995-99) and Head of the Law Department (2000-03) at the Ministry of Justice. He was the Representative of the Kingdom of Denmark on the K-4 Committee (1995-2000), the Schengen Central Group (1996-98) and the Europol Management Board (1998-2000).

Finally, Lars Bay Larsen was a Judge at the Danish Supreme Court (Højesteret) from 2003-2006 before being appointed a Judge at the Court of Justice of the EU. He holds degrees on political sciences (1976) and law (1983) from the University of Copenhagen.

About the Criminal Justice Centre (CJC)

The Criminal Justice Centre (CJC) provides a forum for research and learning in all aspects of criminal justice. Our members are drawn from both the legal profession and academia. We provide advice and training to the legal profession, governments and judiciaries, author key publications on criminal justice, engage with the media, undertake collaborative research, supervise post-graduate research and regularly host seminars, lectures and events.
