The European Movement and Queen Mary's Criminal Justice Centre are holding an event to discuss the UK government's decision on whether to opt out of EU co-operation measures in the field of criminal and policing law.
The Home Secretary’s announcement that the Government is considering opting out of 130 JHA measures has ignited a wide debate and criticism around the risks and repercussions surrounding such a move. The event, hosted in association with JUSTICE, will provide a wide range of perspectives on the consequences of a possible opt-out, with a particular focus on the European Arrest Warrant, the most widely used measure falling within the opt-out's scope. Representatives from politics, academia, NGOs and law enforcement will offer their expert opinions on what lies in store for EU co-operation in the field of criminal justice and the UK’s role within it.
