Time: 6:30 - 9:00pm Venue: ArtsOne Lecture Theatre, Queen Mary University of London, Mile End Road, London E1 4NS
Panel Discussion and book launch for 'Bullying and Behavioural Conflict at Work: The Duality of Individual Rights' (OUP, 2016) by Professor Lizzie Barmes, hosted by the Centre for Research on Law, Equality and Diversity (LEAD).
The subject matter will be: A panel Discussion on ‘Law and Innovation in the Pursuit of Workplace Justice’ and launch party for Bullying and Behavioural Conflict at Work: The Duality of Individual Rights (OUP, 2016) by Lizzie Barmes.
Judy Fudge of Kent Law School and Victoria Phillips of Thompsons Solicitors will join a panel with Lizzie Barmes, to discuss the possibilities and case for finding effective new ways of using existing employment and equality law to pursue workplace justice. This will pick up on a theme from Lizzie’s book that is ripe for debate. Individual rights contain important equality, fairness and reasonableness standards for the conduct of working life and yet it is known that a large and growing number of working people try and fail to solve the problems they encounter, while the small proportion who turn to law and litigation have highly mixed experiences. At the same time, many organisations and managers, not least well-meaning ones, struggle to build constructively on legal interventions in workplace relations. The burning question is if effective innovation is possible both to assist in solving individual problems and to raise workplace standards more broadly.
This event will be followed by a drinks reception to which all attendees are invited.
