The object of the course is to present an in-depth overview of International Environmental Law and discuss its main principles. This will be illustrated by selected case studies, such as the conservation of biological diversity, environmental protection of international watercourses, and climate change.
The course is designed to show the close links of international environmental law with human rights law and general international law, of which international environmental law is part and parcel. The legal materials examined within the course will include international instruments from the above fields, as well as the jurisprudence of various courts and tribunals, with a special focus on the International Court of Justice.
