Room G.44 at Mile End Library, currently known as the Teaching Collection, will undergo a major redevelopment from April 2025 to create a state-of-the-art digitisation suite and an improved study space.
- To create a digitisation suite for the Centre for Digital Collections which will enhance access to key resources by enabling high-quality preservation and digital access to materials.
- Improve access to the library collections by integrating the Teaching Collection, DVDs and CDs into the main collection, making browsing and discovery easier.
- Redesign the study area, providing a modern, comfortable and welcoming study space for focused work.
The project is taking place between April and August 2025.
Mile End Library will remain open throughout the project, but there will be periods of restricted access, increased noise and activity in the area.
DVDs, CDs, and books from the Teaching Collection will be integrated into the main sequence in the first and second floor reading rooms. If you cannot find the book you are looking for, speak to a member of staff at the Welcome Desk.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to improve your library experience.
The remaining study spaces at Mile End Library will remain open during the project. Alternative study spaces are also available:
- Mile End Campus: Canalside; The Hive and the Grad Centre 7th floor (for postgraduate students).
- Whitechapel Campus: Whitechapel Library (please note renovation work is currently taking place); the Garrod Building Old Library study space.
