‘Princess Ida’ is a comic opera written by Gilbert and Sullivan in 1884, based on a narrative poem by Tennyson about a princess who founds a women’s university in her castle. In 1883, an article on Westfield College in Girls’ Own Paper was titled ‘The Dream of Princess Ida.’
