In her autobiography, Constance reflected upon the uncertainties she faced when setting up a ladies college. Here she recalled the events of May 1882,
“…The future is solemn but it may be beautiful. The word of God lies on my knee, & His Spirit near to explain it, sometimes so near that I feel it might be but a single step & my whole heart & life might be flooded & irradiated by His presence. But no, though near He is still outside, still outside.”
Faith was the driving force for Constance personally and inspired the Christian ethos of Westfield.
