Dr Delf Smith, undertaking fieldwork in Shanklin 1926. Dr Ellen Delf Smith (1883-1980) developed the botany department at Westfield College in 1906-1914 and 1918-1948. In 1928 she married Percy Smith, an acclaimed artist and etcher. Her collection includes research and lecture notes, fieldwork note books with botanical specimens and an unusual diary ‘Story of a Marriage’, documenting her marriage with her husband.
