Cataloguing of the Grenfell family archives is underway at Queen Mary Archives. This aristocratic family has a long and interesting history.
Connected by marriage to the recently catalogued Lyttelton family collection, this collection of correspondence and photographs focuses on the lives of Arthur Morton Grenfell, his wife Hilda Lyttelton, and their families from the 1870s to 1950s.
Many of the Grenfell men were involved in various wars over the years. A particular highlight of this collection are the papers of twin brothers Francis Grenfell and Riversdale Grenfell, both of whom fought and died in the First World War. Their fascinating lives are told through letters to each other and to other family members, alongside diary entries written during their time in the army. More resources on the First World War are available on the Meanings of Service website: http://www.meaningsofservice1914.qmul.ac.uk/
