An alumnus has donated a rare film of Rag Week at Queen Mary College in 1974 to the Archives.
The film is available to view on this page, and shows some of the creative ways students raised money for charity almost forty years ago. Raise and Give or RAG continues to this day and covers all of the Union’s fundraising activity. More information is available here.
Rare footage of the installation of the first computer at Mile End in 1968 can also be viewed online. The college was the first to provide a degree in which computer science was the major field of study. In 1961 a mathematical laboratory was set up which was to be the forerunner of the College's Computer Centre and Department of Computer Science and Statistics. While 'Queen Mary and Westfield College The Video’ provides a fascinating glimpse of the college in c.1990, and a contrast to ‘A Day in the Life at Queen Mary’ available here.
All the videos are available on Film and Moving Image. To see more records online view Digitised Records or online exhibitions in Archives Galleries.
