Based on user feedback via the Student Reps at SSLCs, a trial was held to extend the opening hours of West Smithfield Library during the last academic year. The trial was a success, and the opening hours have been permanently extended.
The Library now opens two hours earlier with the new hours being 10am – 8pm Monday to Friday during semester.
During in-person interviews and through comments on the Library Services Survey conducted in March and April 2024, multiple users expressed the desire for extended opening hours.
The basement of West Smithfield Library remains open 24/7 and is open all week, including weekends.
West Smithfield Library has 90 study spaces in the main library with an additional 34 spaces in the basement. Improvements have also been made to the Assistive Technology Room which includes a new height-adjustable table and chair and desktop PC with a full suite of software.
