The benefits that come with studying abroad are many. Independent living promotes greater confidence and self-sufficiency. Cultural sensitivity is heightened when studying in an international environment, setting the stage for a career in a multicultural environment. Since all students will be studying in a new place, a strong sense of camaraderie emerges. Students are able to build a truly international professional network, a priceless element in a medical career. An international study experience also exposes students to new ways of learning and studying.
Malta enjoys a low level of crime. There is a high level of safety, both during daytime and at night, even while walking alone. Both locals and visitors are afforded the same safety levels. Crime rates are low compared to other developed countries. The islands rank 44th globally in terms of safety. Street crimes, burglaries and petty thefts are not major concerns. Detailed safety statistics can be found here.
Students are advised on staying safe and we provide them with useful information, including contact details in the unlikely event of an emergency as well as details of the various support services available to them. Students are also advised on the importance of responsible behaviour and are asked to regularly check in with their family. Knowing that you can reach your child at any time will greatly reduce any anxiety.

As a parent, you play an important role in helping your child prepare for studying abroad and in supporting them while away and back home. Once an offer is accepted, all students are provided with important and useful information. You may wish to go through this information together with your child so that both of you understand what has been provided and what should be prepared prior to departure.
Be aware that students will need encouragement, both when preparing to leave and especially in their first days in a new country. Keep in touch and encourage your child to make the most of the experience by getting involved in student groups and campus life.
We invite offer holders and their parents, friends or wider family to visit us throughout the year, either during one of our regular Open Days, or on a visit tailored to your needs and diary.
