APS Outstanding Referee

Published:

Congratulations to Rainer Klages on this award.

The Outstanding Referee program was instituted in 2008 to recognize scientists who have been exceptionally helpful in assessing manuscripts for publication in the APS journals. By means of the program, APS expresses its appreciation to all referees, whose efforts in peer review not only keep the standards of the journals at a high level, but in many cases also help authors to improve the quality and readability of their articles – even those that are not published by APS. Rainer Klages was among the 157 Outstanding Referees of the Physical Review and Physical Review Letters journals chosen by the journal editors for 2010.

Commendation from Gene D. Sprouse, Editor in Chief, American Physical Society:

"Initiated in 2008, the Outstanding Referee program expresses appreciation for the essential work that anonymous peer reviewers do for our journals. Each year a small percentage of our 42,000 referees are selected and honoured with the Outstanding Referee designation. Selections are made based on the number, quality, and timeliness of referee reports as collected in a database over the last 20 years. The program will recognize about 150 referees each year, although larger groups were selected in 2008 and 2009."
