We are pleased to share another student's success story. Ma-ai Elven, BSc Mathematics Class of 2020, talks about the positive impact Queen Mary University of London has had on her career development. From learning interview skills, improving the layout and appearance of her resume, as well as attending career talks, Ma-ai boosted her confidence and managed to secure a graduate role at KPMG.
Studying at Queen Mary had a huge impact on my career development as it helped me improve my skills and obtain a graduate role at KPMG. In my first year, I applied for one-week work experience at KPMG but I did not do well in the interview so was not offered the position. I went in with absolutely no interview experience and was not prepared for the types of questions asked. Jonathan Strathdee, Employer Engagement and Internship Coordinator gave me detailed feedback and since then, I used the Queen Mary's Careers & Enterprise service to enhance the formatting of my CV, attend careers talks and meetings and completed the QConsult programme supported by J.P. Morgan. This really helped me to understand how to answer interview questions and gave me more confidence when applying for graduate roles. During my last year, I applied for many jobs and it’s been a very stressful time. Nevertheless, I was able to secure a graduate position at KPMG which I will be starting this September.
