Previously he was Head of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Leicester and Associate Professor at the University of North Texas. He graduated from Harvard University and holds a PhD in Mathematics from Auburn University, where he studied under the supervision of Krystyna Kuperberg. Clark's research focuses on dynamical systems and foliated spaces, with an emphasis on the use of topology in the understanding of the limit sets that occur in this setting. Aperiodic tilings, such as the Penrose tilings, have been an area of special interest in his research. Research
