Professor Adrian Smith, former Principal at Queen Mary, University of London from 1998 to 2008, was awarded a knighthood in the New Years Honours. Professor Andrew Hussey, Dean of the University of London Institute in Paris, a partner College to Queen Mary, also received an OBE.
Professor Smith, who is now Director General for Knowledge and Innovation at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, was made a Knights Bachelor as part of the Honours, announced on 31 December 2010. He spent ten years as Principal of Queen Mary and before that he held posts at Imperial College.
Professor Hussey was honoured with an OBE for his services to British and French cultural relations. Commenting on his work with Queen Mary, Professor Hussey said: "The University of London Institute in Paris is a unique institution which brings together the best of British scholarship and international partners. Queen Mary's contribution to our work in the past few years has been vital, especially with the successful development of our MA in Paris Studies, which now attracts students from all over the world. We look forward to building on our close relationship with Queen Mary as we set out to develop new programmes in the next period of development."
