Queen Mary, University of London is announcing new additions to its generous range of scholarships for high-achieving home students. Excellence Scholarships – worth £3,000 a year – in Science and Engineering and Modern Foreign Language are part of QM’s approach to encourage the best qualified students into subject areas which have been identified as essential to UK economic growth, and which are highly sought after by employers.
Students must achieve AAA in their best three ‘A’ levels, or equivalent, to be considered for the awards (which are NOT linked to a student's household income).
QM Science and Engineering Excellence Scholarships are available for all single honours programmes in biological and chemical sciences, materials, engineering (including electronic, mechanical and aerospace), computer science, maths and physics. They are worth £3,000 a year for each year of study, paid directly to students – a total of £9,000 for students on three-year degrees, or £12,000 for MEng programmes. There is no cap on the number of scholarships available under the Science and Engineering scheme – all students who meet the eligibility criteria will receive an award.QM Modern Foreign Language Excellence Scholarships are available for all modern language programmes at QM including French, German, Russian and Hispanic Studies (including Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan). There are 12 Excellence Scholarships offered under the Modern Foreign Languages scheme, each worth £3,000 a year for the first two years of study, paid directly to students – a total of £6,000 over the course. In addition students will have priority access to prestigious paid work placements with leading companies during their year abroad.
Students from disadvantaged backgrounds who also qualify for support under the QM National Scholarship Programme and QM Bursary Scheme will be able to add their Excellence Scholarship to these awards.
Professor Susan Dilly, Vice-Principal for Teaching and Learning at Queen Mary, University of London said: “Queen Mary is keen to ensure that the best and brightest students from all backgrounds are encouraged to study at Queen Mary, and enjoy our excellent programmes on our exceptional London campus.”
