Queen Mary, University of London has risen five places from 28th to 23rd, out of a total of 122 universities, in this year’s Sunday Times University Guide.
The university is eighth best in the country for graduate starting salaries (£24,310), with 82.4 per cent of students going straight into graduate-level jobs.
The university is ranked joint first in London for student satisfaction at 88 per cent, with 76.1 per cent of students rating QM teaching as excellent. The Guide praises the quality of courses at Queen Mary: “Teaching is underpinned by the latest developments in research, an area in which QM excels.”
It also highlights Queen Mary’s research strengths: “Ranked 11th nationally in the last Research Assessment Exercise, it outshone all other institutions in linguistics and drama, came equal first for geography, first in London for medicine, and second in the country for dentistry and English language and literature.”
The Sunday Times University Guide – now in its 14th year – was published on 11 September with The Sunday Times. The league table is drawn up from criteria including student satisfaction, teaching and research quality, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, graduate unemployment levels and university dropout rates.
Principal Professor Simon Gaskell said: “The university is delighted by this result which confirms Queen Mary as one the UK’s leading higher education institutions, committed to the highest quality of teaching, to pursuing research of exceptional quality and to making sure that a university experience is available to the widest possible cross section of society.”
