Queen Mary, University of London is inviting members of the public to tour their state of the art digital music research studios as part of the Digital Shoreditch Festival this week (25-27 May).
The qMedia Open Studios event is a chance for visitors to experience the latest digital technologies in media and the arts that the College has to offer.
With over 200 active researchers, qMedia* brings together a multi-disciplinary consortium of existing groups to conduct world-class research in digital media technologies and disseminate knowledge to the wider community.
Dr Andrew McPherson, who is organising the event, said: “We're excited and proud to present our latest research in media and arts technology.”
qMedia Open Studios will have a range of exhibits, performances, installations and hands-on activities, including: interactive video and touch tables, new types of musical instruments and ‘hack days’ on Saturday and Sunday where visitors have the opportunity to create their own electronics and technology projects.
There will also be a chance to interact with avatars, through an exhibit showcasing the dynamics between performers and audience members.
Pat Healey, co-director of the qMedia initiative, said: "qMedia Open Studios is a brilliant opportunity for us to showcase our innovative research in digital media to the community, to enhance our connections with East London's flourishing creative sector and to inspire new ideas and new projects."

The College will also be running an INNOVATE day at Hackney House on the second day of the Festival (22 May) in collaboration with City University.
The day is for businesses which want to access talented researchers and graduates as well as other cutting edge facilities and resources that universities have to offer.
Queen Mary's spinout companies Chatterbox and Codasign will be taking part, as well as the all-female technology group in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, G.Hack.
