Queen Mary University of London is the only university in the capital to host ‘Coffee House Sessions’ – an exclusive new tour of 40 Students’ Union cafes by the UK’s top young musical talent.
Rising star Lucy Mason, who recently supported jazz-pop artist Jamie Cullum and Australian singer-songwriter Matt Corby, will perform from 3-4pm at the Ground café, Mile End campus, on Tuesday 1 October.
Mason, who lists her influences as No Doubt, Smashing Pumpkins, The Cranberries and Radiohead, learned guitar at the age of 13. Born in Australia, she spent her teenage years in Weybridge, Surrey, where she “fell in love with London’s music scene”.
The Coffee House Sessions series is set to continue every two weeks at the same time and venue until the end of the academic year, with a line-up curated by BBC Radio 1 presenter Huw Stephens.
The Sessions are the brainchild of Guy Robinson, head of live music agency Coalition Talent, who believed the UK university touring circuit was struggling. By working with stars who “already have traction”, he’s hoping to entertain students, support new music and discover the new Ed Sheeran or Adele.
Entry to Coffee House Sessions is free. For more information and forthcoming Queen Mary Students’ Union music event listings, visit http://www.qmsu.org/ents/eventlist/Livemusic/
