A scientist researching the commercial properties of the ‘super-material’ graphene, from Queen Mary, University of London, has received a top prize from the UK’s national academy of science.
The Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award supports Professor Yang Hao’s work using graphene to tailor antennas, an essential device that allow electronic objects to communicate with one another, and artificial materials that have unusual properties known as metamaterials.
“I am honoured to receive this highly prestigious award, which will help support my team’s research into a new subject area. I am grateful for the nomination by the university,” said Professor Hao, from the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.
The Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award is for outstanding scientists who would benefit from a five-year salary enhancement to help recruit them to or retain them in the UK and is jointly funded by the charitable Wolfson Foundation and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).
Professor Hao is one of 25 awardees that the Royal Society announced today (Friday 8 February).
