Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is delighted to announce Professor Nick Lemoine, Director of QMUL’s Barts Cancer Institute, has been appointed to the new role of Medical Director at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Network.
Professor Lemoine, who is also Director of Research, Education & Development within Barts Health NHS Trust, will report to the Chief Executive and act as a focal point for clinical leadership across the Network. He will work with senior colleagues to strengthen links between local and national clinical leaders and ensure the medical voice is fully represented in the Network’s Executive Team and in day-to-day operations. Professor Lemoine will also work with clinical colleagues on the development of a leadership programme to enhance the confidence and capability of the network’s medical workforce.
Professor Lemoine has an impressive history of working with the NIHR Clinical Research Network, having previously held the role of Clinical Director within the Central and East London Comprehensive Local Clinical Research Network. During this time he was instrumental in piloting novel methodologies that have since been adopted nationwide as part of the Network’s recent restructure.
Professor Nick Lemoine commented: “I am very excited to be taking on the this new role. The NIHR Clinical Research Network has recently restructured its operations on the ground, and we now have a great opportunity to tell a more confident story about the delivery of clinical research in the NHS to both the academic community and the life sciences industry. I am looking forward to working with the full spectrum of respected clinical leaders across the network to make sure we realise our full potential across all areas of England.”
Jonathan Sheffield, Chief Executive Officer of the NIHR Clinical Research Network, commented: "The Network cannot be successful without the support of the medical community across the NHS, so it is important we have a senior clinical individual on our Executive Team who can make sure the medical perspective is embedded at all levels of our organisation. I am delighted Professor Nick Lemoine has joined the team as Medical Director. He brings a wealth of experience to the role, and will help us to shape this new chapter in the Network’s development.”
Operating across England, Professor Lemoine will be based at the Network’s offices in London. He will combine the Medical Director post with his role as Director of QMUL’s Barts Cancer Institute.
Professor Richard Trembath, Vice-Principal for Health, Queen Mary University of London, comments: “We heartily congratulate Professor Nick Lemoine on his appointment as Medical Director of the Clinical Research Network. Nick takes up this role whilst maintaining his significant contribution to QMUL’s School of Medicine and Dentistry and his substantial experience as a clinician, scientist and medical leader will undoubtedly help shape the future of the Network.”
