Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) has been named amongst the top 50 universities in the world for Medicine in the influential Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-15.
QMUL’s medical school is ranked 49th globally and 8th in the UK this year for Clinical, Pre-clinical and Health subjects.
QMUL has also risen seven places overall to 107th position globally, and 13th in the UK.
Phil Baty, Editor of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, comments: “Climbing seven places since last year is a real achievement. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that Queen Mary has risen further up the table this year against a backdrop of falls for many of the UK’s universities, and against mounting competition from rising stars in East Asia which have been enjoying strong financial support.”
QMUL was ranked 114th in the world in last year’s league table, up from 145th place in 2012.
President and Principal of Queen Mary, Professor Simon Gaskell, comments: “A rise of almost 40 places in the Times Higher Education’s league table in just two years is a tremendous achievement and is testament to the hard work of our staff.
“It complements our rapid upward trajectory in the QS World University Rankings, which this year placed us in 98th position globally. These improved rankings reflect QMUL’s greatly enhanced standing on the international stage and the strength of our academic activity and reputation.”
The Rankings use 13 separate performance indicators to assess universities against the full range of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. All universities have to meet high standards against tough, rigorous and comprehensive criteria.
