Two academics and three alumni from Queen Mary University of London have been named in the 2015 Queen’s birthday honours. Sir Nicholas Macpherson GCB, Permanent Secretary to HM Treasury and Visiting Professor in the School of Economics and Finance, was appointed Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Bath (GCB) for public service.
Professor Jane Anderson, Honorary Professor in the Blizard Institute and Visiting Fellow in the Centre for the Study of Migration, School of Geography, received a CBE for her services to HIV medicine and sexual health research.
The three alumni include Sir Naim Dangoor CBE (Engineering, 1938), entrepreneur and philanthropist, who received a knighthood for charitable services. Back in 2009 Sir Dangoor donated £3m to give talented students the opportunity to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects at leading higher education institutions in the UK.
Elsewhere Dr Chaand Nagpaul CBE (Barts, Medicine, 1985), Chair of the British Medical Association’s General Practitioners Committee, received a CBE for services to primary care while Mrs Margot Sampson MBE (Westfield, English, 1956), Chair of the Children’s Society Fundraising Committee in Winscombe, Somerset, received an MBE for services to children.
