Queen Mary University of London, King’s College London, and Imperial College London have today announced a new partnership to train the next generation of social science researchers.
The London Interdisciplinary Social Science Doctoral Training Partnership (LISS DTP) is one of 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) across the UK funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). As part of the ESRC’s new Doctoral Training Network, more than 2500 PhD students will receive support from across the 70 university partnerships, as well as within two Centres for Doctoral Training. More than 500 new students will begin doctoral training each year for a period of six years.Professor Bill Spence, Vice-Principal (Research) at QMUL, said: “The partnership is excellent news for social science research and could not come at a more critical and opportune moment. Students will benefit from a collaboration that brings together the expertise and resources of three exceptional universities. From a QMUL perspective, we have a long history of nurturing and valuing social sciences and the humanities – so this is very welcome news indeed. ”Professor Jane Elliott, ESRC Chief Executive, said: "Our new Doctoral Training Network will assure our students’ futures as research leaders by providing them with valuable skills including capabilities in communication, project-management and collaboration within and beyond academia."The DTPs will offer postgraduate studentships and advanced training across the full range of ESRC disciplines. Each DTP will create a strong and active community of students that are equipped – and encouraged – to integrate, work, and learn together.
