The Centre for Commercial Law Studies (CCLS) at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) and Norton Rose Fulbright are pleased to offer two full tuition fee scholarships to students on the LLM in Energy and Natural Resources Law Programme, for the second consecutive year. The scheme is open to LLM students starting in September 2016.
The scheme opened in 2015, following the launch of QMUL’s Energy and Natural Resources Law Institute. The Institute, based at QMUL’s Lincoln’s Inn Fields campus, provides a focus for the development of energy and natural resources law and the training of energy lawyers through its specialist LLM combining academic and practitioner input.
Norah Gallagher, Academic Director of the new Energy Institute at CCLS said: “The full payment of fees is obviously very attractive but this isn’t just about money, it’s also about building networks and connections within a globally prestigious law firm that is very active in the energy sector. The message to those considering the LLM is that while this opportunity is highly competitive, it is one not to be missed.”
Neil Q. Miller, head of the energy disputes practice of Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, and who sits on the working group committee for the Energy Institute commented: “We are delighted to continue to strengthen our relationship with CCLS and QMUL. Our commitment to the energy industry continues to grow and we remain dedicated to providing the chosen students with invaluable skills to become successful energy lawyers through attendance on the LLM and through our internships. QMUL has an excellent reputation, and we are pleased to be able to sponsor this scholarship programme.”
Montserratt Godoy, one of two applicants awarded scholarships in 2015, said: “I decided to study at QMUL because of the prestige of its Energy and Natural Resources programme and the quality of its staff. Furthermore, QMUL combines excellent teaching with impressive professional experience, and student groups from around the world. Winning the scholarship hugely increased my self-confidence and made living abroad a great deal less challenging and more exciting.”
Lauren Downes, the other recipient of the 2015 scholarships, said: “The two aspects of the course that I found particularly enjoyable are: 1) the quality of the classes and 2) my classmates who are from multiple jurisdictions and backgrounds which makes class discussions fascinating.”
QMUL is one of the only universities in the UK - and the first in London - which focuses on the research and study of energy and natural resources from a legal perspective.
