Queen Mary University of London has been ranked as the 23rd most internationally diverse university in the world, according to a list published by the Times Higher Education (THE).
The ranking takes into account the proportion of international students at each university, the proportion of international Faculty, and the proportion of research papers that are published with at least one co-author from another country.
QMUL retains its place as the 7th most international university in the UK. Other UK universities in the top 25 include Imperial, UCL, Oxford, Kings College, Essex, LSE and Queen’s University Belfast.
Professor David Sadler, Vice Principal (International), commented: “This is welcome confirmation of our place amongst the world's most international institutions. We pride ourselves on our vast global reach, which manifests itself in our diverse student and staff body and strong track record in international research. Diversity is a distinctive feature of QMUL campus life, and our impressive international publication record is a further measure of the quality of our research in many of our subject areas."
Phil Baty, editor of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, said: “An institution’s global outlook is one of the key markers of a prestigious university. The top institutions hire faculty from all over the world, attract students from a global market of top talent and collaborate with leading departments wherever they happen to be based. It is great news for all the institutions in the list of the most international universities in the world. It is a sign of great potential, competitiveness and dynamism.”
QMUL students and staff come from more than 150 countries while various partnerships and activities around the world allow the university to deliver teaching and research with an international dimension and impact. Ucas application data over the past few years shows strong growth in the number of EU and non-EU student numbers. Staff members also come from an internationally diverse base as 15 per cent are from the EU and 13 per cent are non-EU. The university receives funded scholars from more than 50 international funding bodies.
