Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) has been ranked among the top 50 universities in Europe, according to a new ranking of elite institutions across the continent.
The Times Higher Education (THE) ranking places QMUL at 41st – QMUL is one of the 17 UK universities to make it to top 50.
The ranking takes into account the institutions’ teaching and research environment, citations (research influence), international outlook and industry income. It is based on the data and methodology used to compile the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016, which places QMUL as the 98th top university in the world.
Professor David Sadler, Vice Principal (International), commented: "Our position in these European rankings is testament to the calibre of our staff and our continued ambitions and efforts to improve our teaching and research. The fact that it places us amongst some of Europe’s very best will help enable us to continue to develop strong links in both the continent and worldwide."
Professor Edmund Burke, Vice Principal for Science and Engineering, said: "This is welcome confirmation of our place among Europe’s top institutions, and is evidence of our ongoing reputation as a destination for the very best students, inspiring teachers, and leading researchers from across the world."
Phil Baty, editor, THE World University Rankings, said: "The new Times Higher Education European University Ranking is based on the same rigorous and exacting group of 13 performance indicators used to compile the overall Times Higher Education World University Rankings, so it is a great achievement to make this new, prestigious top 200 list.
All universities in the ranking have had to demonstrate excellence across a range of measures, covering the teaching environment, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook, and stand out from the thousands of universities across Europe that did not make the cut."
