An anonymous donation has allowed a Singaporean student to study a prestigious LLB Law at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).
Lim Yan Tong was awarded the London-Singapore Law Scholarship, after a Singaporean couple who wished to stay anonymous donated £90,000 to fund an eligible Singaporean student’s LLB at QMUL.
The scholarship will cover travel, accommodation and tuition costs, as well as incidental living expenses and study materials.
Lim Yan Tong will be starting the course in September 2017.
QMUL’s School of Law was ranked third in the 2018 Guardian University League Table for Law and first in London. QMUL also runs a Dual LLM in Commercial Law (taught in Singapore and London) which provides a broad overview in commercial law from both Western and Asian jurisdictions.
Professor Valsamis Mitsilegas, Head of the Department of Law, said: “Queen Mary University of London has enjoyed close links with Singapore for many years and we are tremendously grateful to our philanthropic sponsors of this life-changing award, which is entirely aligned with our Widening Participation ethos. I warmly congratulate Lim Yan Tong on this award.”
“QMUL has exceptionally high rates of student satisfaction, and we look forward to offering Yan Tong, along with our other students, excellent academic and tertiary support to facilitate their achievements and success.”
Once enrolled, Yan Tong will be eligible to apply for a range of innovative Law degree programmes and modules: including Law with a Year in Practice, which entails placement in a City law firm, and Law in a Clinical Environment with QMUL's award-winning Legal Advice Centre.
