Queen Mary is gearing up for a week of Arts and Culture activities, the first edition of a biannual event. The events follow the success of Queen Mary’s Tate Exchange which took place earlier this month.
Queen Mary’s exciting programme of events kicks off on 8 June 2018 with the Annual Arts Lecture which will be delivered by Director of Tate, Maria Balshaw.
The lecture will mark the start of Maria’s honorary professorship at Queen Mary as part of the School of Business and Management's MA in Creative Industries and Arts Organisation from September this year. Register for the event here.
Jana Riedel, Arts and Culture Manager at Queen Mary University of London said: "We are excited to present a series of Arts and Culture events here in the heart of London’s East End this June. The success of Queen Mary’s Tate Exchange showed that arts and culture can be accessible to everyone and we are looking forward to showcasing more world-leading artistic practice and research."
Visions in the Nunnery is returning for its 11th edition at the Nunnery Gallery. A renowned showcase of recent moving image and performance work, Visions aims to offer an international overview of the challenging and thoughtful uses of these ever shifting mediums.
As part of their on-going partnership with Queen Mary, the Nunnery Gallery is looking to commission a new artwork installation at the Mile End Campus to be shown for the duration of the exhibition (28 September until 16 December). The call for submissions is open until 11 June. Read more.
In addition to the Nunnery Gallery exhibition, two workshops will also take place on 11 June:
2018 is the 100th anniversary of Claude Debussy’s death. To celebrate this, Debussy’s masterwork La Mer (part of it composed when Debussy stayed in Eastbourne) is realised in a newly created live performance event that combines Debussy’s masterwork in the composer’s version for piano duet, with dance and film.
A workshop will take place on 12 June (11:00-13:00) with two performances on 13 June (17:30 and 18:30). There will also be an open dress rehearsal on 12 June at 17:30. Register here.
Saturday 16 June will see a special performance from The Pink Singers take place at the People’s Palace on Mile End Road. The concert, called ‘Mixtape’, will see the choir perform a variety of well-known hits and coincides with the group’s 35th birthday. It promises to be an exciting evening. Buy your tickets here.
