Queen Mary is cementing its position as an international leader through joining the Global Federation of Competitiveness Councils (GFCC), a global network of leaders and organisations committed to driving innovation, productivity and prosperity.
Founded in 2010, the GFCC is represented in over 35 nations from six different continents and includes members from government agencies, private sector councils on competitiveness, top universities and research organisations, and global corporations. UK universities include Imperial College London, King’s College London and the University of Warwick. Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico, The University of California, San Diego and The University of Hong Kong are among the international universities.
The network recognises the evolving roles of universities and research organisations as growth engines for the knowledge economy, and its annual University and Research Leadership Forum aims to drive a global discussion on this topic. The Forum sets a global agenda for institutions to collaborate and remain world-class in developing talent, driving innovation, and delivering prosperity to their countries and communities.
This year’s Forum will take place in the context of the Global Innovation Summit in Buenos Aires from Monday 17 to Thursday 20 September. University presidents and heads of research organisations will discuss university-industry partnerships, fostering entrepreneurship, and new models for intellectual property management.
Professor Colin Grant, Vice-Principal (International), initiated the partnership and will be attending the Forum. He said: “We are delighted to be joining this highly innovative network and hope that, together, our great institutions can contribute to improving standards of living and prosperity through understanding, anticipating and promoting change in higher education and research.”
Deborah Wince-Smith, GFCC President, said: “Universities are real accelerators of innovation, economic development and technological progress and play fundamental roles in the future of our economies and societies.
“Queen Mary University of London is a true innovator and we are honoured and excited to share our mutual expertise in innovation and competitiveness to create value for the entire competitiveness community and beyond.”
