Professor Teresa Alonso-Rasgado, Queen Mary’s Dean for Global Engagement in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, has been awarded the highest distinction possible for her academic excellence in Mexico.
The Lazaro Cardenas Medal for academic excellence was presented to Professor Alonso-Rasgado by the Secretary of Education, Esteban Moctezuma Barragán, and the Director General of the National Polytechnic Institute, Mario Rodríguez Casas.
Professor Alonso-Rasgado is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and has undertaken research in biomechanics, orthopaedic engineering, mathematical modelling, numerical techniques, reliability and risk, and has published more than 100 journal and conference papers.
The Lazaro Cardenas Medal is named after a former President of Mexico, and was presented to Professor Alonso-Rasgado at the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City, where she obtained her Bachelors and Masters degrees.
Professor Alonso-Rasgado said: “I feel honoured to receive this award from the Mexican government, to be recognised for my career and contribution by one of the largest and most prestigious academic institutions in Mexico.”
